JSW Group to shift Rs 40,000 crore EV project from Odisha to Maharashtra: Report

JSW Group is reportedly shifting its Rs 40,000 crore electric vehicle (EV) and battery project from Odisha to Maharashtra, reported Livemint.com.
The decision marks a setback for Odisha, where the project was initially set to launch under an agreement signed seven months ago with the state’s Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government, then led by Naveen Patnaik.
JSW Group, led by Sajjan Jindal, is now eyeing Maharashtra, with Aurangabad and Nagpur emerging as the top contenders for the large-scale EV and battery project, added the report. India Today.in could not independently verify the report.
In February, JSW signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Odisha government to develop advanced EV and battery manufacturing facilities in Cuttack and Paradip.
The project was expected to feature a 50 GWh EV battery plant catering to both mobility and energy storage needs, as well as manufacturing commercial and passenger electric vehicles.
It also included plans for auto component production, such as e-powertrains, a lithium refinery, and a copper smelter.
In addition to its own investment, a moneycontrol.com report indicated that JSW is reportedly in discussions with the Volkswagen Group to explore a potential joint venture for EV manufacturing in India.
